SuZ Hume
SuZ was born in New Jersey, and moved to the "Wild West" of
Idaho at the tender age of two. She grew up on the banks of the
Snake River in Homedale, Idaho, not far from the
Owyhee Mountains. From the juniper and sagebrush covered Owyhees, to the beautiful
Sawtooth Range, the whole family camped, hiked, fished and developed an appreciation for the beauty of nature. It was inspiration.
"I always knew that I could never duplicate God's awesome creations; wild animals, rock formations, rainbows, sunsets or the sparkle of sunlight on wild water. But I am inspired to try," says SuZ. Watercolors are her medium of choice. The flow of the watercolor paint on paper is SuZ's special magic. Each of her watercolor paintings expresses that magic.

For 3-dimensional art, SuZ is drawn to clay. She has collected some of her "mud" from the land she has grown to love. You will often find her "up to her elbows" in this stuff of the earth. Her pots and vessels are extensions not only of SuZ herself, but of God's creations in the earth.
SuZ graduated from
Boise State University in 1981 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Elementary and Secondary Art Education. She taught a year at Fruitland Jr. High, and 14 years at Fruitland High School, in Fruitland, Idaho. She is the Chairman of the Arts for the
Idaho Youth Games, volunteered as Art Mom and painted murals in her kids' schools, and has served as 2nd Vice President of the Nampa Art Guild. She has decorated many area businesses and offices with wall murals, including
Dr. Chris Cusimano's Orthodontics Clinic in Nampa. She painted palm trees on the interior walls between windows that look out on an expanse of lush green lawn where blue herons, ducks, squirrels and other wild critters frolic along the banks of a flowing canal. SuZ currently teaches art classes at
Vallivue High School in Caldwell, Idaho. She lives in Nampa, Idaho with her husband Keith and two children Heather and Trevor.
Philosophy of Art
SuZ believes we are all born with special gifts. In some, those gifts are quite loud, obvious, and natural. In others, the gifts are quiet. One need not be born an artist. If the quiet gifts are found, nurtured with love, encouraged, and enhanced through education, they will become vibrant and find their voice. With a passion to discover, one can learn to see, draw, paint, interpret and create. Creativity comes from the soul.
